Basic ChemistryModule 1A is an intense introduction to the nature and behavior of chemicals. Instruction begins with discussion on atomic structure and the periodic table of the elements and follows through with 22 families of inorganic and organic chemical compounds. Emphasis is placed not only on name recognition, but the physical and chemical hazards associated with the materials in the event of a spill or emergency. Fire chemistry and the toxic products of combustion are also discussed as it pertains to various hydrocarbons and derivative compounds.

HazMat Technician 1D (15575)
Module 1D: Tactical Field OperationsModule 1D focuses on the tactics and strategy of entry operations, emergency rescue and medical considerations while wearing chemical protective clothing. Hands-on activities include drum and tank patching, pipeline and industrial pipe system repair, use of the chlorine emergency kits, decontamination corridor set-up and a full scale scenario activity. The course is a capstone to the technician program and participants will have to incorporate the information learned in previous modules to respond to a variety of simulated emergencies. Laws and regulations that pertain to response activities, emergency response planning and both bulk and non-bulk packaging requirements for highway, rail, pipeline, aircraft and water transportation are covered extensively. Chemical and biological terrorism are also included within this program.

HazMat Specialist F (15525)
The Specialist courses provide the highest level of training competency available for a Hazardous Materials Team member. By taking advantage of the Specialist courses, participants have the opportunity to train with State certified Hazardous Materials props, contained on one of IEC's mobile training trailers. The IEC-CSTI certified instructors provide hands-on training for all Hazardous Materials courses.Specialist Level - Module F: F Week studies include, Introduction to Field ID of Hazardous Materials, Demonstration of Field ID of Hazardous Materials as well as Field Identification of known and unknown.
